The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has announced that ongoing repairs to the Narmada canal will lead to a temporary water shortage at the Kotarpur Water Works. The repairs, which began on Wednesday and are expected to last for ten days, involve the rehabilitation of the canal's Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC) lining by the Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited. As a result, the water level in the canal will be reduced, leading to a deficiency in water distribution across the city's five zones: west, central, north, east, and south. The AMC estimates a daily shortfall of 50 to 60 million litres of water, which typically supplies around 1,100 million litres per day to approximately 170 distribution stations. To address this shortage, the AMC will rely on borewells at the water distribution stations, ensuring that water supply continues, albeit at a 10 to 15 percent reduction in daily output.
