In a long-awaited development, 156 families will receive their homes in Chitalsar Manpada, Thane, Maharashtra, after a 25-year wait. The families participated in the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority's (MHADA) housing lottery in 2000. The project has now received the Occupation Certificate from the Thane Municipal Corporation, allowing possession to start in 2025. Each family had initially paid a deposit of ₹10,000 to enter the lottery. Originally priced at ₹51 lakh, the homes will now be available for approximately ₹36.51 lakh following a price reduction by MHADA. This decision comes as a relief for the families, who belong to the Economically Weaker Section and Low Income Group categories. Additionally, MHADA is currently running another lottery to sell 2,640 units across Mumbai, with a revised application deadline of May 14.
