The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has proposed a 'heritage market' tag for commercial hubs over 50 years old to better regulate street vending and alleviate congestion in busy areas. This decision was made during a Town Vending Committee (TVC) meeting, emphasizing the need for organized vendor management alongside heritage preservation. Key markets such as Aminabad and Charbagh will be identified for this initiative. The committee approved the creation of model vending zones in several areas, which will allocate specific spaces for vendors, thereby reducing roadside clutter and enhancing pedestrian movement. Four vending zones have already been cleared, covering approximately 247 shops, and further proposals are being solicited. Additionally, plans are in place to develop vending spaces beneath metro stations and under the Lalkuan flyover to ensure smooth traffic flow. The overarching goal is to harmonize vendors' livelihoods with urban management, aligning these efforts with broader infrastructure planning.
