The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) is struggling to maintain approximately 250,000 streetlights with only 450 maintenance workers, leading to each worker being responsible for around 555 streetlights. This severe staffing shortage has resulted in widespread outages, with many streetlights remaining non-functional for weeks or even months. Manoj Prabhat, chief engineer at LMC, acknowledged the challenge of managing such a large number of streetlights and stated that the corporation is planning to recruit an additional 150 workers to improve maintenance. Areas like the 2-km stretch from Munshipuliya intersection to Sector 25 and Gomti Nagar Extension have reported multiple streetlights out of order, raising safety concerns among residents. Local corporator Amit Chowdhury emphasized the need for urgent intervention to address the ongoing issues with streetlight maintenance.
