The Joint Admission Board (JAB) has announced that it will not provide a one-time relaxation in the Class 12 marks requirement for IIT admissions, despite growing requests from students affected by delays in CBSE re-evaluations. This decision comes as thousands of candidates who cleared JEE (Advanced) 2026 await updated results. JAB stated that a relaxation is not feasible due to the participation of candidates from 36 different educational boards and the pre-established eligibility criteria. IIT Roorkee Director Kamal Kishore Pant previously encouraged all qualified candidates to participate in the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) counselling process, while reiterating that final admissions depend on meeting all eligibility requirements. This year, 56,880 candidates qualified for JEE (Advanced), competing for 18,951 BTech seats across 23 IITs, amidst an increasingly competitive admission landscape. JoSAA counselling began on June 2 and will continue until July 21, with five rounds of seat allocation planned.
