The Joint Admission Board (JAB) has reiterated that the 75% minimum marks requirement for admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) through JEE (Advanced) 2026 will remain unchanged. This decision comes amidst increasing demands for a one-time relaxation of eligibility criteria due to delays in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) re-evaluation process, which has been affected by the new On-Screen Marking (OSM) system. JAB, chaired by IIT Roorkee director Kamal Kishore Pant, stated that lowering the eligibility criteria is not feasible as candidates from 36 different school boards participate in the admission process. The board emphasized the importance of maintaining fairness, noting that last year some candidates lost IIT/NIT seats due to not meeting the percentage requirement. A total of 56,880 candidates qualified for JEE (Advanced) 2026, with 10,107 women, the highest number to qualify. The counselling process for seat allocation will run until July 21, 2026.
