In a press conference, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari clarified that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is not seeking revenge against the Trinamool Congress (TMC) amid ongoing investigations by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). The CID sent a notice to TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee following complaints from two TMC MLAs, Ritabrata Bandopadhyay and Sandipan Saha, who alleged that their signatures were forged in a resolution appointing Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay as the Leader of Opposition. In response to these allegations, the TMC expelled the two MLAs for anti-party activities. Adhikari stated that the CID is investigating the matter under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita provisions for forgery and has already questioned several TMC MLAs regarding the authenticity of the signatures. Banerjee, through his lawyers, has requested more time to respond to the CID notice due to health-related issues. Adhikari reiterated that the BJP has no role in the CID's actions and criticized the TMC's current state, suggesting that the party is effectively defunct.
