The West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has set up a five-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate allegations of signature forgery linked to Trinamool Congress (TMC) legislators. The investigation centers on disputed signatures in a nomination letter for the appointment of the Leader of the Opposition. TMC National General Secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee failed to appear before the CID, despite being summoned to present the party's original resolution and respond to inquiries through his legal counsel. This has escalated tensions, with Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari asserting that the law will be enforced against anyone involved in forgery. Following complaints from two TMC MLAs, an FIR was registered, leading to the CID's involvement. Notably, three MLAs have admitted they did not sign the document in question. The TMC has expelled the complainants from the party, further complicating the political landscape. Amid these developments, Adhikari also announced the launch of free bus services for women and improvements in the Annapurna Yojna application process.
