The Madhya Pradesh Government has officially started the process to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), as announced by Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav. A high-level committee, led by a former Supreme Court judge, has been formed to assess the UCC framework and collect public input. Dr Yadav stated that the time has come for a Uniform Civil Code, eliminating the need for different legal provisions for married women across various religious communities. He pointed out that states like Uttarakhand, Gujarat, and Assam have already adopted similar measures. The committee will travel throughout Madhya Pradesh to engage with citizens from diverse backgrounds to gather their suggestions. The Chief Minister reiterated the government's commitment to inclusive development and harmony among all societal sections, asserting that Madhya Pradesh is well-suited for the UCC. Additionally, a dedicated website has been launched to allow citizens to submit their feedback on the UCC framework.
