Vijay, the chief of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has opted not to accept the police convoy vehicles typically provided to the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu until he is officially sworn in. This decision was made following TVK's performance in the recent assembly elections, where they emerged as the single largest party with 108 seats. Despite this, they still fall short of the 118-seat majority needed to govern independently. Vijay's convoy was returned to the authorities after his personal request, and he has been meeting with Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar to discuss the party's claim to form the government. TVK's current strength is bolstered by the support of five Congress legislators, raising their total to 112, but they remain below the majority threshold in the 234-member Assembly. The Governor has expressed concerns regarding TVK's numbers, which may delay the formal establishment of the government.
