The Indian government has assured that the fertiliser supply is more than adequate ahead of the Kharif season, dismissing concerns about shortages. According to the Department of Fertilizers, data from the Rabi 2025-26 season indicated that the availability of major nutrients such as urea, DAP, MOP, NPK, and SSP exceeded demand. For Kharif 2026, 46% of the estimated fertiliser requirement is already available, which is significantly higher than typical levels. The government is actively working with state authorities to prevent hoarding and ensure timely distribution of fertilisers. Additionally, global sourcing efforts, including fresh urea tenders and stable gas supplies for domestic production, have bolstered the country's preparedness. Despite the rise in global fertiliser prices, urea continues to be provided to farmers at subsidised rates, maintaining affordability.
