The southwest monsoon has made significant progress, advancing into Goa and parts of Maharashtra for the second consecutive day since its onset on June 4. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the monsoon has also reached Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Mizoram, Manipur, and most regions of Tamil Nadu. The Northern Limit of Monsoon has moved through key locations including Devgad, Koppal, and Chennai. Heavy rainfall has been recorded across Kerala, Meghalaya, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Odisha, and Bihar since Friday. The IMD has indicated that an upper-air circulation off the Kerala coast is enhancing monsoon wind activity along the west coast. Over the next five days, heavy rainfall is expected in Kerala, Karnataka, Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. The rainfall activity is anticipated to shift to Yanam and coastal Andhra Pradesh, with further advancement of the monsoon into Telangana, remaining parts of Tamil Nadu, and the southwest Bay of Bengal in the coming days. The eastern arm of the monsoon is expected to progress into parts of Chhattisgarh and Odisha, as well as more areas in northeastern India and sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim by next week.
