In preparation for the monsoon, the Public Works Department (PWD) of Delhi has instructed all divisions to complete drain cleaning and desilting by June 15. This initiative aims to prevent flooding and waterlogging, particularly in areas like the Zakhira underpass, which frequently experiences traffic disruptions due to heavy rain. Water Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh stated that inspections of identified waterlogging points are ongoing, and improvements are being made to the drainage infrastructure. The government is enhancing pump stations and activating monitoring systems to better manage rainwater. PWD officials are required to document the cleaning process with photographs and ensure that extracted silt is removed promptly to avoid re-entry into the drains. Additionally, the order emphasizes the importance of covering manholes and coordinating with other departments to maintain effective drainage systems. Singh reiterated the commitment to address all waterlogging points in the city to ensure smooth traffic flow and minimal disruption for residents during the rainy season.
