The Election Commission of India (ECI) has ordered a repoll in all 285 polling stations of the Falta Assembly Constituency in West Bengal, citing severe electoral offences that compromised the democratic process during the elections held on April 29. The repoll is scheduled for May 21, and the counting of votes will take place on May 24. This decision follows reports of electoral misconduct, including threats and intimidation by Trinamool Congress (TMC) cadres, which sparked protests from local residents. Many protesters expressed concerns for their safety, alleging that they faced threats for their voting choices. Additionally, the ECI received 77 complaints regarding tampering with Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), including instances where buttons were covered or altered to prevent proper voting. Repolling was also mandated in 15 booths in the nearby Diamond Harbour and Magrahat Paschim constituencies due to similar issues.
