On Monday morning, an empty coach of a suburban local train derailed at Dombivli station in Maharashtra, prompting the Central Railway (CR) to form a four-member committee to investigate the incident. The derailment occurred at 8:09 AM while the train was being moved from Kalwa Car Shed to Kalyan, affecting operations on the Slow line. Fortunately, there were no passengers on board, and no injuries were reported. However, the incident caused significant disruptions during the morning rush hour, with nine train services canceled and delays of up to 30 minutes reported. The impact continued throughout the day, affecting commuters waiting for trains bound for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus. In response to the incident, 12 trains were diverted to the Fast line. Concerns were raised by the Mumbai Rail Pravasi Sangh regarding the quality of maintenance work conducted during a recent mega block in the same area. CR officials clarified that the mega block had concluded nearly 22 hours before the derailment, and many trains had already passed over the tracks afterward. The investigation will aim to determine the cause of the derailment and assess the effectiveness of the maintenance work.
