The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) in India has significantly reduced Vodafone Idea's (Vi's) adjusted gross revenue (AGR) liabilities by nearly 27%, bringing the total from ₹87,695 crore to ₹64,046 crore as of December 31, 2025. This decision, made by a DoT-appointed committee, provides crucial cash-flow relief for the struggling telecom operator, enabling it to pursue fresh fundraising opportunities. Under the new payment structure, Vi will make a minimum payment of ₹100 crore annually for four years from FY32 to FY35, with the remaining dues to be settled in six equal annual installments from FY36 to FY41. This staggered repayment plan effectively extends the payment period to 16 years, offering much-needed breathing room for the company. The government has previously intervened to support Vi, including a four-year moratorium on AGR and spectrum dues as part of its 2021 telecom relief package. Additionally, the government has converted nearly ₹52,950 crore of Vi's deferred dues into equity, increasing its stake to 48.99%, making it the largest shareholder. Following this adjustment, Bharti Airtel may also seek a reassessment of its own AGR dues.
