The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has significantly reduced Vodafone Idea's outstanding adjusted gross revenue (AGR) dues by 27%, bringing the total down to ₹64,046 crore from the previous ₹87,695 crore. This reassessment was finalized by a committee established by the DoT and will be effective as of December 31, 2025. Vodafone Idea will pay the dues in a structured manner, with a minimum of ₹100 crore annually over four years from FY2031-32 to FY2034-35, followed by six equal instalments of ₹10,608 crore each year from FY2036 to FY2041. This financial relief is expected to improve Vodafone Idea's cash flow and strengthen lender confidence, facilitating easier access to bank funding. The company is planning to invest ₹45,000 crore over the next three years to enhance its network and profitability. However, analysts emphasize that further capital infusion and government support will be essential for a complete turnaround. The reduction in dues could also lead Bharti Airtel, the second-largest telecom provider in India, to request similar relief, as it currently faces AGR dues exceeding ₹40,000 crore.
