Mayawati, the president of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), has voiced strong criticism against the Indian central government for its recent decision to increase the price of 19-kg commercial LPG cylinders by ₹993, effective from May 1. This hike has raised significant concerns among the public, particularly regarding its impact on inflation and the cost of living. In her post on X, she highlighted that the price of commercial cylinders in Delhi will now exceed ₹3,000. Mayawati pointed out that the government had previously managed to keep petroleum prices under control, especially during the recent assembly elections, and urged it to continue this policy to protect the interests of the poor and middle-class citizens. She warned that the rise in LPG prices could lead to further increases in the costs of other petroleum products, contributing to widespread unease among the populace. Mayawati called for the government to assess the implications of such price hikes on the majority of citizens already struggling with inflation.
