B Sumathi, the first female Police Commissioner of Malkajgiri in Hyderabad, conducted an undercover operation between 12:30 am and 3:30 am to evaluate women's safety in the area. During this three-hour period, she was approached by nearly 40 men, many of whom were allegedly intoxicated, making vulgar remarks and advances. Local police intervened, detaining the offenders, who were later counselled and released. This operation underscores the ongoing concerns regarding women's safety in public spaces, particularly at night. Sumathi, who took charge just a week prior, has previously conducted similar initiatives, including an operation near Kazipet railway station. With a career in the Indian Police Service since 2006, she has held various significant positions and is known for her efforts in negotiating the surrender of Maoists, demonstrating her commitment to public safety and law enforcement.
