Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra, a 51-year-old Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA representing the Sanaur constituency in Patiala district, Punjab, has filed a plea in the Punjab and Haryana High Court alleging threats to his life and liberty. The bench, led by Justice Tribhuvan Dahiya, has directed the Punjab government to respond to his claims by May 6. Pathanmajra asserts that he is facing a series of “malicious, false and politically motivated criminal proceedings” initiated by the ruling party due to his vocal criticism of the government. He was arrested on March 24 in Madhya Pradesh and has been involved in multiple legal issues, including allegations of rape and a mining case. In his plea, he expressed fears of being falsely implicated and requested that authorities provide him with advance notice of any investigations or arrests related to him. His lawyers are pressing for a swift response from the state.
