Rajeev Krishna, the Director General of Police (DGP) of Uttar Pradesh, India, has raised concerns about cross-border criminal and terror networks utilizing social media to mislead and radicalize youth. During a high-level meeting, he instructed police officials to enhance digital surveillance and take immediate legal action against those spreading communal or caste-based hostility online. The DGP emphasized the importance of monitoring social media to counter misinformation campaigns and digital radicalization. He also highlighted the need for accurate information dissemination to prevent escalation of law-and-order situations. Furthermore, Krishna reviewed the deployment of 60,244 newly recruited constables, calling it a significant opportunity for improving public safety through effective beat policing and community interaction. The meeting also addressed various aspects of crime control, public grievance redressal, and the implementation of e-summons systems. The DGP expressed satisfaction with the state's performance in the latest “Crime in India 2024” report, indicating a positive trend in crime indicators, reflecting the dedication of police personnel.
