Three men from Navi Mumbai, Jalandhar, and Darjeeling were rescued from a notorious cyber scam compound in Myawaddy, Myanmar, where they were forced into cyber fraud. After their return to India in January, instead of abandoning their criminal activities, they regrouped and began executing online scams, planning to establish a cyber crime operation from a farmhouse near Mumbai. Their arrest in March by the Pimpri Chinchwad police revealed connections to a larger network involved in defrauding victims through fake share trading applications. Investigators discovered that the trio had learned their fraudulent skills while being exploited in Myanmar, where they were coerced into executing various scams under duress. The investigation has highlighted the extensive reach of organized cyber fraud networks and the exploitation of vulnerable individuals through fake job offers. The UN has reported that such scam centers are part of a vast ecosystem of human trafficking and forced labor, affecting hundreds of thousands across Southeast Asia.
