The Maharashtra unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is gearing up for the upcoming elections for six legislative council seats, emphasizing organizational leaders rather than those who were defeated in previous Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. Over 30 names have been shortlisted by the state unit’s core committee after two meetings. The final candidate list will be finalized by the party’s central leadership by April 28, ahead of the April 30 nomination deadline. The BJP will contest six out of ten seats under the Mahayuti alliance's seat-sharing arrangement. Notable figures missing from the shortlist include former MPs Ranjitsinh Nimbalkar and Navneet Rana, as well as former MLA Ram Satpute, all of whom were defeated in the 2024 elections. Instead, the party is focusing on leaders with organizational roles to send a message to its cadre while maintaining regional caste balance. The elections are set against the backdrop of nine seats being contested due to retirements and one bypoll on May 12.
