On Friday, the Karnataka government approved a revised internal reservation system for Scheduled Castes (SCs) during a special cabinet meeting at Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced that the new allocation includes 5.25% for both right-hand and left-hand Dalits, and 4.5% for other SC groups, maintaining the overall SC reservation at 15%. This decision responds to long-standing demands and follows similar measures in Haryana and Telangana. The revised structure was based on recommendations from a technical committee, which proposed slightly different percentages that were modified during cabinet discussions. The recruitment process for 56,432 posts will commence immediately, marking a significant step towards addressing internal divisions within Dalit communities. Siddaramaiah emphasized that the decision reflects the government's commitment to social justice and aims to set a precedent for other states.
