During the 2026 General Elections in India, the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) IT platform, ECINET, played a crucial role in maintaining cybersecurity and ensuring smooth operations. On counting day, ECINET effectively countered 6.8 million malicious cyber attacks from both domestic and international sources. Overall, the platform recorded over 98.3 crore malicious hits across polling days, with peak activity hitting 3 crore hits per minute on May 4. The platform, which integrates over 40 applications and portals, also introduced a QR code-based Photo Identity Card system to enhance security at counting centers, generating over 3.2 lakh QR codes to restrict access to authorized personnel only. The elections saw impressive voter turnout, with West Bengal achieving 92.67% and Tamil Nadu reaching 85.10%. Assam and Puducherry also reported record participation rates of 85.38% and 89.83% respectively, while Keralam recorded 78.03%.
