In the wake of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) losing power in West Bengal, the security setup outside TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee's residence in Kolkata has been notably reduced. Local resident Sourav Banerjee remarked on the positive changes in the area, stating that the previous heavy police presence of 300-350 officers has diminished, allowing residents to move freely. This shift follows a directive from the Election Commission of India (ECI) to ensure 'zero tolerance' towards post-poll violence after reports of vandalism at TMC offices, including a recent incident in Asansol. The BJP's historic victory, securing 207 seats and ending TMC's 15-year rule, was marked by Suvendu Adhikari defeating Mamata Banerjee in Bhabanipur by over 15,000 votes. Despite the BJP's dominance in seats, the TMC's vote share of 40.80% indicates a competitive political landscape, suggesting that the electorate remains divided but engaged.
