Gaurav Gogoi, the president of the Assam Congress party, described the results of the recent Assam Assembly elections as 'extremely disappointing' and stated he would take full responsibility for the outcome. The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) achieved a significant victory, winning 102 seats compared to the opposition's 75 seats. The BJP alone secured 82 seats, while its allies, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the Bodoland People's Front (BPF), each won 10 seats. In contrast, the Congress party, part of the opposition coalition known as Mitrajoot, managed to win only 19 seats. Gogoi announced that the party has begun an internal review process to identify the reasons behind this electoral setback. The outgoing Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, has resigned, paving the way for the formation of a third consecutive BJP-led government. The oath-taking ceremony for the new government is scheduled for May 12 in Guwahati, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi expected to attend as the Chief Guest.
