Gogoi received 46,257 votes compared to Goswami's 69,439 votes, resulting in a defeat by 23,182 votes. This was Gogoi's first attempt at an Assembly election, having previously represented Jorhat in Parliament. The constituency is located in the Ahom heartland and was crucial for Gogoi's political aspirations. The Congress party had heavily invested in his candidacy to consolidate support from the Ahom community. As per the Election Commission, the BJP has taken a commanding lead in the state with 3 seats won and leads in 78, totaling 81 seats. In contrast, the Congress has not yet secured any seats and is leading in 21. Other parties, including the Bodoland People's Front and Asom Gana Parishad, are also competing for seats, indicating a diverse political landscape in Assam.
