Vijay, the head of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), is preparing to take the oath of office as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on May 10. His party emerged as a significant force in the recent Assembly elections, winning 108 seats and forming a coalition with support from Congress, CPI, CPI(M), VCK, and IUML, enabling them to surpass the majority threshold of 118 seats. Vijay, backed by 120 MLAs, met with Governor Arlekar at Lok Bhavan and has been asked to demonstrate his majority by May 13. The swearing-in ceremony will occur at Chennai’s Nehru Stadium. A tentative cabinet list suggests that eight ministers will take the oath alongside Vijay, though adjustments to portfolios may still occur. Former Chief Minister M K Stalin has welcomed the coalition's formation, stating that while they support TVK, the DMK will act as a constructive opposition.
