Political banners, flags, and cut-outs from various parties have resurfaced across Chennai, particularly on barricades for Metro Rail construction. The anti-corruption organization Arappor Iyakkam has raised concerns about the safety hazards posed by these illegal installations, urging the government to implement stricter regulations and penalties for violators. On May 6, they highlighted a specific case in Royapuram involving a Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) banner obstructing the road. Banners were also reported near the TVK office in Alwarpet and along Velachery 100 Feet Road. In response to public complaints, the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) confirmed that action was being taken to remove these illegal banners. Zonal officials noted that inspections would commence following the conclusion of election-related activities. Additionally, residents have called for the removal of other encroachments, including roadside shops and abandoned vehicles.
