Santanu Sinha Biswas, a Deputy Commissioner of Kolkata Police, was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) following an extensive 11-hour questioning session. His arrest is tied to a fraud and extortion investigation related to land grabbing activities linked to the criminal network of Sona Pappu. Biswas had previously skipped four summons, prompting the ED to issue lookout notices against him. The agency's probe revealed that Biswas allegedly engaged in suspicious financial transactions, including an estimated ₹2.5 crore (approximately $300,000 USD) linked to the illicit network. Additionally, he is under investigation for potential involvement in sand smuggling and other financial irregularities. This case follows the earlier arrest of businessman Jay S Kamdar, who is accused of illegal transactions worth around ₹1,100 crore (approximately $132 million USD) in a related land-grabbing case. The ED is continuing to identify other individuals involved in this criminal network.
