During Operation Sindoor, which lasted 88 hours in May 2025, Pakistan launched a series of drone and loitering munitions attacks targeting various airports in India, including those in Srinagar, Jammu, and Amritsar. Despite the intensity of the conflict, no Indian airport or airbase sustained damage, as Indian forces successfully intercepted the drones. In retaliation, India struck 13 Pakistani airbases and military installations. Following this conflict, Indian authorities recognized the need for enhanced air defense capabilities. They have since installed anti-drone systems at vulnerable airports and constructed specialized bunkers for civilian protection. Training for security personnel has also been intensified, with nearly 490 Quick Reaction Team (QRT) commandos trained to NSG standards for modern combat scenarios. The government has reduced the age cap for commandos and increased the frequency of physical efficiency tests to ensure readiness. Additionally, a mock drill across 244 districts was conducted to prepare civilians for aerial attacks. With ongoing improvements in security measures, India is positioning itself to better handle future aerial threats.
