On Thursday evening, two alleged gang members, Mukesh (34) and Sonu (23), were injured in an encounter with police near the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in Panchkula, Haryana, India. The police were acting on a tip-off about an extortion attempt targeting a dhaba (roadside eatery) in Karnal. The suspects, linked to the Noni Rana and Monu Gurjar gangs, were riding a motorcycle without a registration plate when police attempted to stop them. They opened fire during their escape, leading to a shootout in which both sustained bullet injuries to their legs. They were subsequently admitted to Sector 6 civil hospital. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Amrinder Singh confirmed that both suspects have prior criminal records, with cases registered against them under the Arms Act and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. A new case has been filed under the Arms Act and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The suspects will be presented in court once they are fit for questioning.
