Chandigarh's Mayor Saurabh Joshi inaugurated a ₹13.53 crore project aimed at upgrading the sewer trunk main leading to the Diggian sewage treatment plant. This initiative is crucial for addressing persistent sewer overflow issues that have plagued residents in Phase 11, Mohali, particularly during the monsoon months. The existing sewer line along the Chandigarh–ISER Road has deteriorated due to aging and heavy silting, leading to problems such as waterlogging and foul odors. The project, part of the AMRUT 2.0 incentive scheme, will span approximately 2,105 metres and is expected to be completed within six months. A significant feature of this upgrade is the use of advanced trenchless cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) technology, which will minimize road excavation and enhance the lifespan of pipelines by up to 50 years. This modern approach not only reduces disruption to daily life but also aims to improve sanitation and lower maintenance costs, providing much-needed relief to the affected residents.
