Bengaluru, Karnataka, India, experienced a devastating rainstorm on Wednesday evening, resulting in 10 deaths and extensive flooding across the city. The Central Business District recorded 77mm of rainfall in just 40 minutes, with winds reaching 50 km/h. The storm caused significant infrastructure damage, including the collapse of a wall at Bowring Hospital, which killed seven people, including a child and a tourist. The flooding led to roads around MG Road, Indiranagar, and other key areas being submerged, with water levels rising 2 to 3 feet in some places. The Bescom helpline received nearly 25,000 distress calls, of which 18,000 went unanswered, as over 50 electric poles were uprooted and 17 transformers damaged, plunging large parts of the city into darkness. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah acknowledged the city's unpreparedness for such intense weather and announced that special engineering teams would be deployed to flood-prone areas. As the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts more intermittent thundershowers in the next 48 hours, Bengaluru braces for further challenges.
