In a significant electoral victory, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won 206 seats in the West Bengal Assembly elections, effectively ending the 15-year rule of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) led by Mamata Banerjee. This victory is expected to facilitate the implementation of several Central government schemes that had been stalled due to political tensions. Among the key initiatives set to be revived is the Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), which offers ₹5 lakh (approximately $6,000 USD) in health insurance coverage per family. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced this during his victory speech, emphasizing the scheme's potential to improve safety for women and employment for youth in Bengal. Other schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), which aims to provide housing, and the PM Matsya Sampada Yojana for the fishing community, are also expected to be fast-tracked. Additionally, the Jal Jeevan Mission aims to improve water access, while the PM Fasal Bima Yojana will provide crop insurance to farmers. The PM Vishwakarma Yojana will support artisans with training and financial assistance.
