The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has approved a 50% property tax rebate for women who own residential properties measuring up to 500 square feet. This decision, made by the standing committee, is part of the PMC's efforts to encourage more property registrations in women's names. Approximately 70,773 properties are expected to benefit from this initiative, which will lead to a revenue loss of nearly ₹20 crore for the civic body. Shreenath Bhimale, the standing committee chairman, stated that this proposal was included in the budget announcements and will be presented to the general body before being sent to the state government for final approval. The scheme will be effective only for the financial year 2026-27 and applies to properties registered in women's names by March 31, 2025. Beneficiaries with outstanding property tax dues must settle their arrears to qualify for the rebate. Additionally, properties already receiving the existing 40% self-occupied property tax concession will receive a reduced rebate of 25% instead of the newly proposed 50%.
