As Delhi braces for a heatwave, the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) has taken proactive measures to safeguard the homeless population residing in shelter homes. They have installed QR codes linked to the Rain Basera app for emergency assistance and displayed banners with details of nearby hospitals and emergency contact numbers. To ensure residents receive adequate care, DUSIB is providing basic amenities such as three meals a day, sanitation, and drinking water. Additionally, shelters have been equipped with cooling devices, including ceiling fans and desert coolers. The DUSIB is also distributing Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) packets to promote hydration, while awareness campaigns are educating residents about heatwave precautions. Currently, DUSIB manages 197 shelters across Delhi, accommodating approximately 5,500 individuals, primarily migrants and homeless persons.
