The first cabinet meeting of West Bengal's Bharatiya Janata Party government, chaired by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, resulted in significant decisions aimed at enhancing state security and welfare. The cabinet approved the immediate transfer of land to the Border Security Force (BSF) for constructing fences along the Bangladesh border, citing national security concerns. Adhikari emphasized that the previous government had delayed this process to protect specific demographics. Additionally, the cabinet sanctioned the commencement of the census process, which had been stalled since June 2025, and committed to implementing central welfare schemes such as Ayushman Bharat and PM Ujjwala Yojana. The government also introduced a five-year age relaxation for government job applications, fulfilling a promise made during the election campaign. Adhikari noted that the next cabinet meeting on May 18 would address critical issues including dearness allowance for state employees and institutional corruption. He expressed gratitude to voters for a high turnout and acknowledged the sacrifices of BJP workers over the years.
