Naveen, a 25-year-old coconut trader from Choodenahalli in Anekal taluk, Bengaluru, succumbed to severe burn injuries on May 2 after being set on fire by his in-laws. The incident occurred on April 14, following a confrontation between Naveen and his father-in-law, Sampangi, and brother-in-law, Munesh, over marital issues with his wife, Suchitra. Naveen had visited his in-laws' home to persuade Suchitra to return after she left with their two children. During the argument, Sampangi allegedly poured petrol on Naveen, and Munesh set him ablaze. Naveen suffered critical injuries and was hospitalized for about 15 days, during which he made a dying declaration accusing his in-laws and wife of the attack. Initially registered as an attempted murder case, the FIR was later converted to murder after Naveen's death. Investigations are ongoing into the roles of Suchitra and her mother in the incident.
