The National Testing Agency (NTA) has cancelled the NEET (UG) 2026 exam, which was held on May 3, 2026, due to a significant paper leak. Investigators traced the leak back to a meeting in Nashik, Maharashtra, where a single copy of the exam was sent to Haryana. From there, five different sets of the exam were created and distributed to Andhra Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, and Telangana. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is now tasked with conducting a comprehensive inquiry into the matter. The NTA received reports of malpractice four days after the exam and escalated the issue to central agencies for verification. The Rajasthan Special Operations Group has already detained 15 suspects, including coaching center owners and a medical student. The NTA has stated that it will conduct the examination again to maintain transparency and trust in the system, with new dates to be announced shortly. While acknowledging the inconvenience this decision causes, the NTA emphasized that it was necessary to prevent further erosion of trust in the examination process.
