The National Testing Agency (NTA) has cancelled the NEET-UG exam conducted on May 3 for 22.05 lakh candidates due to serious allegations of malpractice, making it the first complete cancellation in the exam's history. The NTA received reports of a PDF file containing exam questions circulating prior to the test, leading to an investigation that confirmed the leak. The decision was made to uphold the integrity of the examination system, with NTA stating that the alternative would have caused greater damage to public trust. The exam will be reconducted without requiring new registrations or fees. Previously, while allegations of paper leaks have occurred, the NEET-UG has never been cancelled entirely. In 2024, a similar situation arose, but the Supreme Court did not order a retest, citing insufficient evidence of a systemic leak. The NTA has implemented several security measures in recent years, including biometric verification and GPS-enabled transport of exam materials, to prevent such incidents.
