The promotion process for 4,461 assistant teachers in Uttar Pradesh has been stalled for four years, primarily due to administrative negligence and the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission's (UPPSC) focus on recruitment examinations. The Uttar Pradesh secondary education department has requested promotions for 1,821 lecturer posts in the girls' wing and 2,640 in the boys' wing, but the eligibility list remains incomplete. Teachers have expressed frustration as many are retiring without promotions. Rameshwar Pandey, patron of the Uttar Pradesh Government Teachers Association, noted that promotions in the girls' wing have been pending for seven years, while the boys' wing has also faced delays. Currently, only 948 out of 5,409 sanctioned lecturer posts are filled, representing about 18% of the total. Officials acknowledged that completing the pending promotions could lead to a significant recruitment drive, creating new employment opportunities for aspiring candidates.
