The Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education (HPBoSE) has recalled a Class 6 textbook titled 'Folk Culture of Himachal Pradesh & Yoga' due to serious translation errors that misidentified Kinnaur district as 'transgender' and Mandi as 'market.' This decision, announced on Friday, follows backlash from parents and educationists concerned about the inaccuracies. The book, which is an English adaptation of 'Himachal Pradesh Ki Lok Sanskriti Evam Yog,' was introduced in the curriculum for the 2026-27 academic session to aid students in improving their language skills while learning about local culture and yoga traditions. HPBoSE chairman Dr. Rajesh Sharma indicated that the errors might have resulted from the use of AI or automated translation tools. The board has committed to reprinting the book and will provide corrected copies to students free of charge.
