The second round of the India-Japan Economic Security Dialogue took place on May 11, 2026, co-chaired by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and Japanese Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Takehiro Funakoshi. The dialogue aimed to enhance collaboration in strategic industrial sectors to bolster supply chain resilience, particularly in light of current geopolitical tensions. This meeting follows the framework established during the 15th Annual Summit in Tokyo in August 2025. Key sectors discussed included critical minerals, semiconductors, information and communications technology (ICT), clean energy, and pharmaceuticals. Both sides acknowledged the significance of the Private Sector Dialogue held on March 26, 2026, which facilitated discussions between Indian and Japanese companies. The dialogue underscored the necessity for closer public-private partnerships to protect economic interests. Additionally, an extensive exchange of views on various bilateral issues, including defense, trade, and technology, was conducted, further solidifying the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership.
