Amazon India has announced a significant expansion of health and insurance benefits for nearly 90,000 delivery associates across the country. The enhanced coverage includes outpatient department (OPD) support for routine medical expenses, hospitalization assistance for inpatient care, and compensation for temporary or permanent disabilities. The mediclaim coverage has been increased to ₹1.5 lakh (approximately $1,800 USD), while OPD expenses are now covered up to ₹10,000 (approximately $120 USD). Additionally, group personal accident coverage has been expanded to ₹10 lakh (approximately $12,000 USD). Salim Memon, director of operations at Amazon India, stated that these initiatives are part of a larger investment of ₹2,800 crore (approximately $336 million USD) aimed at improving associate well-being and scaling operational infrastructure. The benefits also extend to associates' family members, offering unlimited multilingual virtual doctor consultations and two free in-person OPD visits annually. Furthermore, Amazon has organized nationwide health camps in collaboration with a third-party insurer, providing essential health services such as eye examinations and general physician consultations. These camps, which began in March 2023, are available at Amazon's last-mile delivery stations across India, focusing on proactive health screening and heat-risk identification for delivery associates.
