Amazon India has announced a significant expansion of its 'Ashray' rest centres, which provide dedicated rest stops for delivery associates. The company plans to increase the number of these centres to 250 across cities such as Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Chennai by the end of May. This expansion is particularly timely, as the India Meteorological Department has forecasted hotter-than-usual temperatures and increased heatwave days in central and eastern India. Currently, Amazon operates over 100 Ashray centres, which have collectively seen more than 1 million visits from delivery drivers in 2025. The facilities are designed to offer essential amenities, including air-conditioned seating, drinking water, first-aid kits, and mobile charging points, ensuring that all delivery drivers, regardless of their affiliation with Amazon, have a place to rest during their workday. Salim R Memon, Director of Operations at Amazon India, emphasized that the health and wellbeing of associates is a top priority. The expansion is part of Amazon's broader commitment to invest over ₹2,800 crore in enhancing associate safety and health across its operations. Additionally, Amazon has introduced mobile 'Ashray' units, air-conditioned vans stationed along busy delivery routes, providing drivers with easy access to rest and hydration support.
