The Telangana Transport Department is preparing to implement a comprehensive new parking policy to address the growing problem of illegal parking and abandoned vehicles, which contribute to traffic congestion and accidents. The draft policy, submitted for government approval, proposes significant penalties for illegal parking, including towing charges and daily storage fees. Currently, vehicle owners can retrieve their vehicles by paying a basic fine, but under the new rules, they will incur additional costs for towing and daily storage. For instance, daily fees may range from ₹20-30 for two-wheelers to ₹200-300 for buses. Vehicles parked in no-parking zones or obstructing traffic may be towed immediately. Moreover, if a seized vehicle is not claimed within 30 to 45 days, it could be auctioned off. The government is also looking to establish modern vehicle storage facilities under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model to accommodate seized vehicles more effectively. Officials believe these stricter regulations will improve traffic discipline and enhance road safety across Telangana.
