Sanjeev Arora, the cabinet minister of Punjab and former chairman of Hampton Sky Realty Limited, has approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court to challenge his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on May 8. He contends that the arrest, made under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), is illegal and politically motivated. Arora's legal representative, senior advocate Puneet Bali, argued that the arrest was executed in a 'predetermined and mechanical manner' and that no incriminating evidence was found during searches conducted at his properties. Bali emphasized that Arora has consistently cooperated with the ED and has not engaged in any actions that would warrant such an arrest. The court has scheduled further arguments for May 14, as Arora seeks to quash the remand order issued by a Gurugram court on May 9. His petition highlights concerns about political vendetta, referencing similar protections granted to other political figures in Punjab.
