A special court in India has granted Naresh Goyal, the founder of Jet Airways, permission to travel to London for four weeks for medical consultations regarding his serious health conditions, including malignant duodenum neuroendocrine tumors and heart disease. The court, presided over by Judge R B Rote, emphasized that the right to travel abroad for medical treatment is a fundamental human right guaranteed under the Constitution of India. Goyal's legal team argued that he requires an international second opinion due to the complexity of his medical condition and the risks associated with major surgeries. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) opposed the plea, citing Goyal's involvement in a ₹5,716 crore financial fraud and potential flight risk, especially with his son residing in London. However, the court noted Goyal's classification as sick and infirm by the Bombay High Court and acknowledged his scheduled appointment at Wellington Hospital in London. It allowed the travel while imposing strict conditions to prevent any risk of absconding or tampering with evidence. Goyal was arrested in September 2023 for allegedly laundering money linked to Jet Airways and is currently out on medical bail.
